Fans gather in Zagreb to mark the death of Goran Bare

Hundreds of fans gathered in Zagreb's Vjekoslav Majer Park in Zapruđe to pay tribute to late Majke frontman Goran Bare, lighting candles, lanterns and torches while singing his songs, after the band earlier thanked the public for support and asked for the family's privacy to be respected.

A monitoring station has been installed at the PPK Velebit illegal waste site in Gospić to track PM2.5, PM10 and metal concentrations in the air during the site's remediation, according to Lika-Senj County. The station was set up at the City of Gospić's request by experts from the Split-Dalmatia County Institute of Public Health, with the county and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund also involved.

Freight train derails near Meja station close to Rijeka

A Transagent freight train derailed at 9:25 am on Saturday at the entrance to Meja station near Rijeka, with eleven wagons falling into a ravine. HŽ Infrastruktura reported that the driver had alerted dispatch that the brakes had failed, that no one was injured, but that major material damage occurred and the station was closed to all traffic.

During Saturday's Hajduk-Dinamo derby at Poljud stadium in Split, heavy rain exposed the venue's shortcomings as water leaked through the roof onto the stands, boxes and the exit tunnel. Fight between masked football fans on the A8 motorway near Mihotići, police intervened

On the A8 motorway near Mihotići, close to Opatija, dozens of masked individuals clashed with a group of fans from Pula who were being escorted by police toward the Učka tunnel, according to the Primorje-Gorski Kotar police. Police say the Pula group was not injured and their vehicles were not damaged, with an investigation ongoing, while a fan portal unofficially names Rijeka's Armada and Pula's Demoni as the groups involved.

Croatia plans to build four waste-to-energy plants

According to the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, Croatia plans to build four waste-to-energy plants near Šibenik, in Osijek, Rijeka and Zagreb, at various stages of preparation, with experts noting that construction can take eight to ten years from decision to operation.

Fire at the Metis waste site in Pula extinguished, one firefighter slightly injured

A large fire that broke out on Friday afternoon at the Metis waste site in Pula was fully extinguished by Saturday morning around 6:50, with the city saying the smoke danger has passed. One firefighter was slightly injured and released after treatment, while Mayor Peđa Grbin said, citing the public health institute, that air pollution had not reached levels harmful to health.

USKOK releases detainees held in investigation into waste dumping near Senj

USKOK expanded its investigation into illegal waste dumping at a municipal landfill near Senj, inside Velebit Nature Park, arresting several people previously treated as witnesses before stating it would not seek pre-trial detention, after which they were released home. According to USKOK's statement, the probe covers 14 suspects and four legal entities over environmental crimes, document forgery and alleged organised criminal activity linked to Varaždin, Gospić, Senj, Sveti Juraj, Benkovac, Sisak, Zagreb and a waste supplier from Slovenia.

Cause determined for fire at the Metis recycling centre in Pula

Police in Istria have reported that a fire which broke out on Friday at the Metis recycling centre in Pula's Šijana district was caused by a thermal reaction inside a pile of unsorted waste; the blaze was contained that evening and fully extinguished by Saturday morning, with one firefighter slightly injured.

Hajduk vs Dinamo derby at Poljud, banner message to Dinamo player appears before match

Hajduk and Dinamo played their ninth-round SuperSport HNL derby at Poljud stadium in Split, with Hajduk's Adrion Pajaziti out injured and Dinamo's Josip Mišić suspended. Residents protest in Našice against burning of waste from Gospić at the Nexe cement plant

Residents of Našice held another protest against the energy recovery of waste from Gospić at the Nexe cement plant, gathering around a hundred people according to media estimates. City authorities say four trucks of waste have arrived at the plant so far, while Nexe stated the material is non-hazardous shredded plastic and that air quality measurements remained within prescribed limits.

Three-car crash in Brnaze near Sinj, six injured

Three cars collided in Brnaze near Sinj on the D1 state road on Saturday evening around 18:10, with police reporting six people injured and taken to hospital in Split, where staff said five arrived and none were life-threateningly hurt; traffic on the Brnaze-Kukuzovac section is being alternated on one lane.
