Routine RS hydrology bulletin: no station has crossed flood defence level

The Republika Srpska Hydrometeorological Institute issued its routine bulletin covering 19 of 21 stations on 16 rivers, with water levels rising at 13 stations, falling at one and stagnant at five, and no station exceeding the flood defence threshold.

Freight train derails near Meja station on the approach to Rijeka

A Transagent freight train carrying grain derailed around 9:25 this morning at the entrance to Meja station near Rijeka, with 11 wagons falling into a ravine and the locomotive and two wagons remaining on the tracks; no one was injured but there is major material damage and the station is closed to rail traffic. Early reports say the driver reported brake failure before the derailment, while HŽ Infrastructure's management calls for stricter inspection of wagons and locomotives and the train drivers' union head says the wagons' roadworthiness is questionable.

Minić announces programme for children to visit regions of Republika Srpska

Savo Minić, the SNSD candidate who according to preliminary CEC BiH data won the most votes in the Republika Srpska presidential election, announced on social media that one of his first actions in office would be a programme for children to visit all regions of the entity, naming Banja Luka, Herzegovina, Krajina and Posavina as examples.

Serbia Centre party calls on diaspora to vote in pyjamas over foreign ministry's voting-time decision

The Serbia Centre party has called on citizens of Serbia abroad to vote in pyjamas at the upcoming election, protesting a foreign ministry decision that voting at all diplomatic missions follow Serbian time. The party says this will force voters in distant time zones to cast ballots at night and describes it as a further obstacle to diaspora voting.

Suspect arrested over attempted murder after traffic dispute in Zemun

Police, acting on an order from the Belgrade Higher Public Prosecutor's Office, arrested Jovan M. (21), suspected of stabbing N.P. in the chest during a traffic dispute in Zemun on October 10, attempting to kill him. Prosecutors said he is charged with attempted murder and has been detained for up to 48 hours pending questioning.

Banner showing a 'United Macedonia' map at MZT Skopje - Iraklis match prompts diplomatic reaction

At a FIBA Eurocup match between MZT Skopje and Greece's Iraklis, played on 6 October in Skopje, MZT fans displayed a banner with a map of a so-called 'United Macedonia' covering parts of Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria and Albania; Iraklis says it reported the case to FIBA Europe, and the Greek embassy in Skopje reportedly raised the issue with North Macedonia's foreign ministry.
