Media Freedom Coalition seeks prosecution inquiry over REM document against N1 and Nova S

The Media Freedom Coalition says Serbia's broadcasting regulator REM published a document accusing N1 and Nova S of violating election silence, despite the Council allegedly never discussing or deciding on it, and is calling on the prosecution to investigate, including possible criminal liability of REM Council chair Stevica Smederevac.

REM finds N1 and Nova S breached pre-election media silence

Serbia's broadcasting regulator REM said that on 23 October 2026 it detected content on N1 and Nova S television during several short morning slots that breached the pre-election media silence, and that its staff notified the channels' editors. A REM council member said the regulator can establish violations and file complaints but lacks full jurisdiction over N1 and Nova S as cross-border broadcasters.
